Ontario PCs Get Shovels in the Ground for the Ring of Fire

After years of Liberal delays and broken promises, Ontario PCs are getting shovels in the ground to unlock the enormous potential of the Ring of Fire.

Construction is now underway on the Webequie Supply Road, a major milestone that puts Ontario years ahead of schedule in building the roads needed to connect the Ring of Fire, create good-paying jobs and strengthen our economy.

The Ring of Fire represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a stronger, more self-reliant Ontario. Developing the region’s world-class critical mineral deposits will help create more than 70,000 good-paying jobs, generate an estimated $22 billion for Ontario’s economy over the next 30 years and secure the critical minerals needed for advanced manufacturing, electric vehicles, batteries and national defence.

While previous Liberal governments spent years talking about the Ring of Fire, Ontario PCs are delivering.

The Webequie Supply Road is the first major step in an accelerated plan to build more than 500 kilometres of all-season roads into the Ring of Fire. The road is expected to open in 2030, four years ahead of the original schedule, helping connect communities, improve access to essential services and support responsible economic development in Northern Ontario.

This progress is also being made in partnership with First Nations. Working together with communities like Webequie First Nation, Ontario is creating long-term economic opportunities while supporting meaningful economic reconciliation and ensuring local communities benefit from the region’s development.

The accelerated Ring of Fire road plan also includes:

  • Construction of the Marten Falls Community Access Road beginning later this summer.
  • Upgrades to the Anaconda and Painter Lake Roads.
  • Construction of the Northern Road Link beginning in 2028.

At a time when countries around the world are competing for the critical minerals needed to power the industries of tomorrow, Ontario PCs are making sure those jobs and investments are created here at home.

We’re building the roads.

We’re creating good-paying jobs.

We’re strengthening Ontario’s economy.

And we’re protecting Ontario for generations to come.
